And this week, I hung out in Google!

Aloha all -

This week, we had our first team assignment for ETC 647e.  In keeping the trend of becoming a Creator Society, we were tasked with "creating" an assignment for our class!  Very interesting. I like the scaffolding of learning, building upon our imagination that was stimulated from The Daily Create from last week.

We will become knowledge creators by contributing our ideas, not just knowledge consumers.  It will be hard to not be engaged with these activities as we have significant input and feedback into its design.  It is definitely a project that fosters our critical thinking and collaborating skills, facilitating our transformation into 21st century learners as well as educators.

My Team Iridium experience went extremely well.  Sometimes, scheduling meetings can be tricky, with everyone having their own responsibilities and obligations in addition to those for class.  This time, it was surprisingly easy to find an agreeable time as all members were flexible.  We also created Google docs to post ideas and resources prior to our meeting.

At the assigned time, everyone was prompt and ready to go in Google Hangout. Using the screen share option, we were able to view, refine and finalize our proposal.  Our meeting was very productive, and we worked together well.  I believe we developed a sense of trust and respect and were all able to contribute creative suggestions to create and refine our proposal.  Being flexible and open-minded is crucial when collaborating and I want to thank my team - Sean and Vera - for making my experience a very positive one! Go Team Iridium!

Here's hoping everyone's experience was as well received.  Hope you all like our proposal!

And this week, I participated in the Daily Create!

Aloha all -

I greatly enjoyed this week's activity.  We were tasked to participate in The Daily Create - a place for "spontaneous creativity" through daily challenges.  It actually ended up being quite interesting and fun!

For my first day, I took a picture of "a light in the dark."

My second contribution involved creating a poem by using each word of a poem as the last word in each line of your poem. Now, I'm not a writer by any means, but here's what I came up with...

My Love

I hear a voice, is it my love’s?
He is a precious gift.
Live without him, I cannot.
Without him, where would I be?
My heart has been given.
Please be kind to it.
It is patient and it waits.
Be the one I can talk to.
Be the man I need you to be.
Always make me feel accepted.

(Based on a poem by Rabindranath Tagore)

And drumroll please.....for my 3rd and final (although I think I might keep this up) submission, the challenge was to "Take one picture of your world in a nutshell."

So far, my photos have not showed up on The Daily Create website although I tagged it correctly...still trying to figure it out.  Have any of you had the same problem?  I appreciate any suggestions.  I'm hoping it'll show up soon.

A hui hou,
Terri

Welcome 2014!

Aloha all -

Happy New Year!  Mahalo for reading my blog!  I am embarking on another ETEC adventure with ETEC 647e - Emerging Tech: Trends.  Looking forward to another enlightening semester with Dr. Bert.  I am excited to learn, explore and evaluate new tools, strategies and trends for teaching and learning.

I have blogged before using Wordpress, but for this semester's blog, I tried a few of the other popular blog sites. I finally decided on using Blogger to expand my horizons.  I hope to use it to reflect on what I have learned each week throughout the semester. Hence the title - "And this week, I..."   I welcome any comments and suggestions.  So far, it's been interesting getting used to the Blogger format...Wish me luck;)

A hui hou,
Terri

Welcome to my blog!

Aloha All!

My name is Terri and I am in my second year of the OTEC Master’s program. I work as a post-high counselor working with college students. My area of interest is integrating technology and Ed tech strategies into counseling and guidance. It continues to be an adventure -- learning many new things and meeting so many wonderful people.

During the fall and winter, our primary interest is FOOTBALL! My husband coaches, my daughter was a manager, my nephews play and it’s a family affair. Now that the high school season is over, we can sit back and enjoy the NFL playoffs and look forward to the Superbowl. My other favorite thing to do is travel, but unfortunately only as time and finances permit, so definitely not as often as I would like, mostly to Las Vegas or neighbor islands, but planning on a trip to Jamaica for our 25th anniversary!

Look forward to learning with my ETEC 647e classmates this semester!

A hui hou,
Terri
